One Flower Wednesdays

This past weekend we traveled to Savannah and then Charleston for our nephew's wedding. It was hot and I thought I would melt before they said "I do!"

While traveling, I had plenty of time to work on my flowers. This is the first time I have ever worked with hexagons but I love them!!

I apologize for how dark my pictures are. I am definitely out of blogging practice!!

Phases and stages

I have been working on this scarf for about a year. I will pick it up, work on it a while and then put it down again. The picture does not do the yarn justice. It is almost finished but I think I will need to buy another skein of yarn to finish it--it is just not quite long enough. Knitting is something that I don't do very well but I find the process soothing. Violet is my favorite color so you can see why I fell in love with this yarn.

I have been working on Gail Pan's "A Christmas Wish" free BOM. Here is my completed first block and I'm almost finished with block two. She has the instructions for block three posted and hopefully I will start on that this week. These are so much fun to do. My stitches are improving slowly. Anne has been giving some stitching lessons so you might want to check her blog out and follow along if you want to start or improve your stitching.

I was so touched by all of you who visited my new blog and left comments. Julie is a dear friend and she was so sweet to mention my blog!! I am sitting at my desk at work during lunch with my eyes dilated from a doctor's appointment but I had to thank you all. I wanted share something that caught my attention and I fell in love with it. I don't know if it is because of fairy tales I loved from childhood or from those times when you just want to be alone ---somewhere. It is a tiny house with almost a dollhouse look. It looks pink in the picture (and they have not finished painting) but it is really a shade of lilac. I know that my husband would not live in this house--but I could!!

I am so excited to be starting a blog! I had wanted my first post to be on Jan. 1 but it was not meant to be. But there is nothing to stop me now!! There are many things that I want to accomplish in 2009.

First, I want to finish my quilting room. I have always wanted a craft/sewing room of my own and now I have it. I have painted it Irish Mint (Benjamin Moore). I had to stop there because my youngest son had to move home for a while before he left for Iraq with his National Guard unit. His furniture and other belongings are still sitting in my quilting room but not for long.

Before we move his things I want to paint and re-carpet the bedroom where my son's things will be stay until he returns. I also want to replace the carpet in my new private space. We will be re-painting most of the rooms in our home but choosing colors has proven to be a difficult task. I have found a new appreciation for color because of quilting. There were some colors that I could not imagine using in my house or my quilts but now--there aren't many colors I don't like. It just depends on what you put with it!

Second, I want to finish as many of my UFO's this year as I can (ever heard that goal before??!!) Most of my quilts are pieced but need borders, etc. Hopefully, when I finish my room I won't be wasting so much time looking for this or that. I hope to finish at least 4 quilts before the end of the year. This is a Tennessee Waltz that I have been working on for my daughter for her high school graduation. Since she graduated over a year ago--it's time to get this finished!!

Third, work on our backyard. My husband I have divided our yard up. He is responsible for the front and I am responsible for the back. The backyard has become overgrown and needs a lot of work. This is one view that show how large the bushes have become. We have some serious pruning to do.

We also have an ENORMOUS holly bush that is trying to take over. My DH says that leave anything that is green alone but this one has got to go!!
